A Diva State of Mind

Chad Ocho Cinco joined the club of celebrities looking for love on national television. “OchoCinco:The Ultimate Catch” premiered Sunday on VH1.  And for those of you how didn’t get a chance to see it, you didn’t miss much.

For the Love of Ray J”, “The Ultimate Catch” looks like a desperate attempt by VH1 to keep the “love” shows alive throughout the summer when there’s nothing else on TV and they know people will tune in.

The show started out with 85 girls competing to be in the house.  With the help of friends, football test and an evening ball, Chad was able to narrow down the number of girls in the house to 16.  All I can say is that I was bored. I felt like I wasted an hour and ½ of my life.  As usual, the women on the show were pretty, but lacked brain power. And the selection of women wasn’t very diverse either.  As someone said on twitter “why didn’t Ochocinco just go to Cuba or PR to film the show? The colored girls on the show are just a formality.”

Rumors were going around months ago that Chad wasn’t really a fan of black girls being a part of his final 16.  According to a member of the production staff, the final girls were pre-selected; after Chad’s disapproval and re-selection, the final group consists of Hispanics, whites and 2 Black girls. Now I’m sure no one is surprised that a group was already selected by the production staff. And while it’s disappointing there aren’t more black girls on the show, I think we’ve had enough on the previous “love” shows over the years that haven’t done us justice.  And any educated, self respecting black woman wouldn’t be foolish enough to sign up for this show (at least I would hope so). 

Like all the other shows, the women are “serious” about being with Chad and the show is overly dramatic already.  Don’t they know he most likely has already signed a deal for Season 2, so the “ultimate catch” won’t really be with him after the show??

The show should be called “The Ultimate Groupie.”

I guess the one good thing about this show compared to the others is that the ladies aren’t being disrespected by being called some foolish, degrading nickname.  For now that is…we’ll see what happens next week.

Sigh…

In the meantime, I’ll continue to watch The T.O.Show.  It’s actually a good reality show on VH1. 10:30pm on Sundays.

Lauryn Hill is BACK! She recently performed at the Harmony Festival 2010 this past weekend, performing songs from her album, The MisEducation of Lauryn Hill.  I’m so glad she is back on the scene.  Now, we just need her to get back in the studio!!!

Kobe Bryant is featured in this month’s issue of LA Times Magazine and I don’t like his look at all!! He looks extremely feminine and we all know Kobe isn’t that dark.  It’s something unsettling about the way he looks in some of these pics!

While I don’t necessarily like the way Bryant looks, I do like the wardrobe by designers Ann Demeulemeester, Kris Van Assche and Adam Kimmel. And who doesn’t love Harry Winston diamonds!

The second video of Whitney performing at a UK concert has been spreading across the internet like wildfire.  Whitney Houston sounds HORRIBLE!!   And her fans didn’t appreciate paying $200 per ticket for a performance like this either!

I remember when Whitney Houston was the princess of the 80s and early 90s! Her voice was one we hadn’t heard before.  And unfortunately she made the terrible decision to marry Bobby Brown and her career ended prematurely.

Now, like most artist of the 80s and 90s, she’s been trying to make a comeback. Well Ms. Houston, I hate to say it, but your time was up when you decided to start smoking that crack with Bobby talking about “show me the receipts” (yall know you remember that interview!).  It’s time for you to sit down!

Let us reminisce about the old Whitney Houston who had every woman trying to reach that note in “I Will Always Love You;” the Whitney who gave us ballads like “Saving All My Love For You,” All The Man That I Need” and “Where Do Broken Hearts Go.”  Let’s remember the Whitney Houston who starred in Waiting to Exhale and The Bodyguard.  Can you even imagine how many more movies we would’ve seen her in had she stayed on the right path?

Ms. Houston, don’t tarnish your musical legacy with a “comeback tour” when you haven’t made a comeback. Your performance was nowhere near the caliber of what we’re used to or expect, so save yourself the embarrassment and exit stage left!!

Now you all know I don’t do much celebrity gossip on the blog site, but when I saw this news on Twitter, I was a little sad.  Lance Gross and Eva Marcille have split!!    According to ESSENCE.com, “When ESSENCE.com reached out to the couple’s representatives for confirmation about the break-up we were given this official joint statement. ‘Lance Gross and Eva Marcille have mutually decided to end their relationship. The split is completely amicable,’ the statement reads.”

Now those America’s Next Top Model lovers will know Miss Eva from Season 3 as the diva who wasn’t going to let anyone get in her way to make it to the top! I don’t know much about Lance Gross, except that his big break came on Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.

They seamed like such a couple, young black couple, making their mark in the entertainment and fashion industry. I had hope for these two because when they were first interviewed on ESSENCE.com, they seemed to be so much in love. 

Well I do hope they get back together.  It’s not often that we see successful, young black couples in the limelight. I mean we have Will & Jada, but it was nice too see the next generation of couples in Black Hollywood.

One disadvantage to working a 9-5pm job is that I miss watching The View I love watching the hot topics because the ladies go in on each other, especially Whoopi Goldberg and Elizabeth Hasselbeck.  So it was no surprise that after Health Care Reform passed, Elizabeth had a lot to say.   But please believe the ladies, especially Whoopi, weren’t going to let her get away with expressing herself without raising questions of there own.  I’m surprised this didn’t turn into a shouting match…

Yesterday was the first day of The Big Tigger Morning Show; the replacement to the Donnie Simpson Morning Show.  The show features BET personality, Danella and comedian Donnell Rawlings as Tigger’s co-hosts.  I’m not surprised Tigger took over the morning show, even thought the radio station made his exit from his afternoon 2-6pm time slot a very dramatic one (for a minute, we all thought he was leaving the radio station for good).

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to truly tune in for the show’s entire 4 hours and assess if I’m going to like it.  I mean, from what I heard this morning on my way to the metro, it wasn’t anything too different. Although, Tigger screaming at the top of his lungs at 6am may be a little much.  Of course, it’ll take getting used to since I woke up every morning to The Donnie Simpson Show and his catchy theme song since I was little!

I was SOOOOO excited when I heard the news.  According to BV Buzz, BET is in the final stages of renewing The Game.  The show was cancelled last year after running for 3 seasons on the CW Network.  BET featured re-runs of the show and actors from the show ran campaigns to try to get the show renewed. Well it looks like all of the hard work has paid off!!

The show is schedule to start taping in May 2010.  Everyone has confirmed to come back except Colby Bell, who plays Jason Pitts. Shoot, even if he doesn’t come back, I’m just excited show is back.  The executive producer of Girlfriends, Mara Brock Akil, is expected to return to the show as well (YES!!! So you know the show is going to be good).

I’m so glad a BLACK show is coming back!! After we lost Girlfriends (I’m still upset about that one), The Game was the new show we all could hold on too that featured us! Once The Game went off air, I can’t think of one majority black sitcom that was on television.  We took over reality TV on BET and VH1 instead.

So go ahead and set your DVR for this fall (I’m going to assume the show will air in the fall. Let’s hope so!).  I’ll definitely be glued to the set to see the show picks up from where it left off last year!
