Tyrese teamed up with his Baby Boy co-star Taraji P. Henson for his latest video “Stay.” This is the second single off his upcoming album Open Invitation due in stores November 1st.

Tyrese hasn’t been in the music game for five years. In anticipation of his new album, he shared the following with media outlets and fans:

Here’s my “OPEN INVITATION” to you. My everything was put into this album coming November 1st.  It was you who inspired me to get back in the studio and do it again.  As you’ve seen from my movies  -Tranformers DOTM- & -Fast Five- that have both now grossed over $ 1.7 Billion worldwide.   Also I can’t tell you how much it means to me that you all went out to support my now NY Times Best Selling Book “How To Get Out Of Your Own Way”  to many other great things over the last few years, the man above has been expanding my territories into many different amazing things. But rest assured, that my FIRST and ONLY LOVE is still MUSIC.  

I’ve read your letters, tweets, Facebook, MySpace and emails.  I’ve listened to your voice mails and more importantly, I’ve run into you in person and you’ve all wanted me to do it again… So come 11.1.11 my new album “OPEN INVITATION” will be launched globally for you to listen and feel my heart & soul that I put into the album.  On this album I wanted to give you an “Open Invitation” to the clubs and the bedroom.

The last time Tyrese released an album was in 2006.  My favorite of his is still his first album, Tyrese. You know you remember “Sweet Lady” and “Lately!!” Oh how I miss 90s music. Sigh…I’m interested to see what he’s going bring to R&B music in November.

Musiq Soulchild released a new video for his single “Yes” from his recent album MusiqInTheMagiq. The video pays homage to those battling breast cancer.

Musiq is the new ambassador for Susan G. Komen for the Cure Circle of Promise, a movement designed to further engage black women around the globe in the fight against breast cancer.  Musiq will raise awareness about breast cancer so that younger women know the importance of early detection and why it’s important to pay attention to their bodies.

Directed by Hype Williams, Big Sean finally released a new video for “Marvin & Chardonnay” the hit record off his debut album Finally Famous.  Love this song and it definitely should have been a bigger hit this summer!  The video is reminiscent of the Kayne West & Jamie Foxx ”Gold Digger” video; it features a lot of women and bright colors.  Big Sean’s mentor Kanye West and Roscoe Dash are also featured in the video.

Beyonce recently shot a video for her favorite song “1+1” from her new album 4.   According to Columbia, “1+1” is not an official single but it is the first of many videos which will be released to visually tell the story of 4.

This time around, she kept it simple but artistic. No choreography, no dancers and no leotards or short dresses. The video uses interesting visual to focus on the sensual side of Beyonce.

 

Despite other reviews, I liked the video. I thought it was beautiful.  I know many expected a storyline or something more because after all, it IS Beyonce.  However, due to the nature of the song and the live performances I’ve seen, I think this video is appropriate. With all of that being said, I do agree with one critique of the video though; it does look like an extended version of her Heat commercials!!

Last night J. Cole released the video for his first single “Work Out” off his anticipated album Cole World: The Sideline Story which hits stores September 27th.  The song samples Kanye West‘s 2004″The New Workout Plan” and Paula Abdul’s 1988 “Straight Up.”

The video is simple;  while playing basketball he spots a woman who catches his eye.  He later meets up with her at a party.  I don’t know why, but the video quality reminds me of something we would’ve seen in the late ’90s or early ’00s. And I love it!

Jay-Z  and Kanye have taken over the charts with their new album Watch The Throne.   They recently released a video for the first single off the album “Otis.” The video isn’t anything too over the top, just Ye and Jay looking like they are having a good time chillin and riding around in a Maybach!

Now I actually like the song, but can someone please explain to me why Kanye is screaming like that at the end of the track?!? To me it sounds like a bunch of noise, but I was told it is artistic. If that’s the case, then I guess I just don’t get it!

Video bonus: The Maybach in the video will be offered up for auction and proceeds will be donated towards the East Africa Drought Disaster!!! Love it!

Beyonce released the new video for my favorite song off her her most recent album 4. I absolutely LOVE.THIS.SONG!  Beyonce is known for creating “women anthems” and I think this track may be another one to add to her list. 

In this video, we find King B reflecting on a high school boyfriend who treated her badly at prom; she ultimately finds true happiness and we witness her getting married in a fabulous wedding dress from Baracci Beverly Hills.  Her reception dress is of course none other than Vera Wang.

Since she’s so in love, I was hoping we’d see her getting married to her real husband!

If you haven’t done so already, please do yourself a favor and get your hands on a copy of the album 4.  As Beyonce stated during her Good Morning America performance, this time around she focused on creating good music and focus less on creating radio hits that we’re all so used to hearing. Not sure how much radio play she’ll get receive but the album is definitely good music.  And unlike past albums, this one focuses less on Sasha Fierce and we hear more of the true Beyonce. You can definitely tell she is happy and in love.

BTW – Anyone else hoping “Party” is the next video she releases with Kanye West & Andre 3000?  Now that’s a song that I can see being a summer jam! Nothing like a song to give us the feel of the 90s. That was an era of great music!

Songtress Marsha Ambrosius  released a new video for her next single “Late Nights & Early Mornings” from her current album Late Nights & Early Mornings. I love this song (actually I love the entire album) and the video; Ambrosius delivers a very strong message.

Considering I recently wrote a blog post on women carrying condoms, this video could not have been more on time! We are shown two women who engage in sexual relations with their significant other.  Both women pull out protection before doing the do; one women uses protection while the other listens to her partner and does not which turns out to be a life altering decision.

Ladies, if your partner objects to using protection, he is not worthy of the cookies. Plain & simple!! Wrap it up and know your status and your partner’s status.

I have been anxiously waiting for the “Man Down” video and it finally premiered last night on 106 & Park. I absolutely LOVE this song; “Man Down” is definitely an anthem for this summer.   The song is about breaking a man’s heart however the video tells a different story;  Instead of visually telling the story of a man who is broken hearted, Rihanna tells the story of a woman who is raped after a party.

I checked out various blog sites to see what people thought of the video. Some thought it was beautiful and were glad to finally see a story line. Others were outraged that Rihanna would premiere a video about such violence (rape and murder). While I wasn’t expecting this storyline to be portrayed in the video, I’m not mad at all that Rihanna took this route. I do not think it’s anything worse than what we’ve seen on television and it has people talking about a topic that is not discussed enough. 

The video is completely different than the oversexed Rihanna we’ve seen. Has anyone else noticed that she has toned down her image at various events recently?  Would you rather see this video or see a R&B artist wearing a strip of cloth and throwing their goodies everywhere?  Now what message do those videos send to young girls? We have seen a lot worse in videos than what was portrayed in “Man Down.” Believe me, when it comes to music videos, we’ve seen a  lot worse than what was portrayed in “Man Down.”

Beyonce FINALLY release the video for her new single “Run The World (Girls).” For the past couple weeks she released teaser videos to get us all excited for the new video and what we can expect to be a summer full of Beyonce!! 

I finally watched the video this morning.   The choreography is HOT and the outfits are FIERCE, but due to a lack luster song, I won’t be rushing to dance in front of my television every time the video comes on like I would for “Single Ladies,” “Ego” and “Get Me Bodied.” 

While I’m not a huge fan of this single, I am looking forward to her upcoming album. After all, it is Beyonce and she doesn’t ever really disappoint.  Who knows, maybe “Run The World (Girls)” will grow on me. In the meantime, I’m anxious to hear other singles from the album. There has to be at least one song that will make my list of 2011 summer anthems!



Beyonce’s fourth studio album 4 is set to be released on June 28th.
