A Diva State of Mind

On Thursday, May 16, 2013, mila & fire will kick off a series of events with the launch of their contemporary summer collection & look book at retail therapy.  The event series will focus on the indie shopping experience, styling consultations and networking to build and grow local brands.

Along with happy hour specials and music by The Beard & The Fro, Kimee Brown of Neon V Magazine will provide a styling presentation and consultation incorporating mila & fire’s new summer collection.

Please check out this event and make sure you visit the Endless Touch vending table for the latest natural hair and body oils, body butter, lip balms and body scrubs (shameless plug for my friend’s company, I know)!

On Wednesday, October 10, 2012 from 5-11pm, join The DDM Group and La Fortezza DC as they host PUSH Wednesdays Happy Hour at Fujimar Restaurant.  Fujimar is located on the second floor of Lima Restaurant & Lounge (1401 K Street NW).  Nominated as the “’Best Sushi in DC”, Fujimar features a modern layout with multiple HDTV displays, stainless steel accents at the bar, comfortable lush white leather couches coupled with stone-top tables, sleek chairs and hardwood floors creating a relaxing atmosphere.

The DDM Group and La Fortezza DC created this happy hour experience for DC professionals to have fun, mingle, network and decompress after a long day of working 9 to 5.  They hope the happy hour will also serve as a weekly home for fundraisers (both charitable and corporate), birthdays, special events and a watering hole for the city’s political and legal professionals.

As you probably know by now based on the type of events I post on the blog, I love doing what I can to give back to the community!  You don’t have to have much to be able to make an impact!

Next Wednesday, I’m teaming up with Fashion Empowering Women (FEW) to raise money and collect school supplies for their Build A Backpack Drive. The goal of the drive is to provide 600 backpacks full of supplies to kids living in DC for the new school year.    By making a minimum $5 donation and/or bringing school supplies, you’ll have two extra hours to enjoy Vinoteca’s happy hour specials, 5-9pm.

Known for its late night parties, Recess Lounge has added a Tapas Lounge to offer patrons a happy hour and dining experience throughout the week.  Owners Brandon Howard and Fisayo Esconsay partnered with Chef Will Vivas to create a full tapas menu based on Vivas’ Venezuelan roots. Diners can expect menu items like tapas Lamb con Romero, Hongos Conservados (Aged Roasted Mushrooms), and Rolled Spongecake with Nutella.

The restaurant and lounge features 49 seats in the dining area and 10 bar stools for casual eating. Hours for the Tapas Lounge are Tuesday through Saturday 4:30-10pm, with Happy Hour specials from 4:30-6:30. Normal lounge late hours remain Tuesday 10pm to 2am and Friday- Saturday 10pm to 3am.

This Wednesday, July 11th, Recess is hosting a special friends and family opening of Recess Tapas Lounge. Beginning at 4:30pm, attendees will enjoy speciality drinks including The Summer Splash, X-Tini, Swedish Cosmo, Watermelon Martini, June Bug, Raspberry Blossom Black Snapper & Laguna Azul all for $5. In addition, happy hour small plates menu including Calamari Frito, Gambas al Ajillo (Garlic Shrimp), Croquetas de Bacalao (Cod Fish Croquettes) and Fresh Pei Mussels will be available for $5.

A Diva State of Mind is sponsoring the The BlaqOut Show’s live broadcast from Bar 7 on Wednesday, February 8, 2012.  The BlaqOut Show is one of the most popular shows on the online radio station, Elite DC Radio.

Happy Hour is from 5-7 pm and features great specials: $4 drinks, $3 Heinekens and $25 all you can drink wine along with a “Find Your Match” interactive game for all the singles! The BlaqOut Show will aire live from 7-9 pm.

DC fashion blogger Krystin of Be Loud Be You is hosting her first holiday happy hour!  The purpose of the event? To bring together DC fashionistas and tastemakers for a night of food, drinks and networking.  I mean, it is DC; we don’t ever need a reason to attend a happy hour!

Krystin has only been blogging for a couple of months, but she is already making an impact on DC fashion. I’m very proud all of her success and can’t wait to attend her event. I hope to see you there!!!

I want to say THANK YOU to everyone that came out Friday night, May 21st, to Tabaq Bistro for A Diva State of Mind Happy Hour.  Happy hour began at 5pm and was still going strong at 10pm.  Tabaq was PACKED and DJ Premonition keep everyone moving with present hits and throwbacks from the 80s and 90s!

The purpose of the happy hour was to promote the blog. I’ve been writing for 8 months and feel that I have interesting material to share beyond my core group of friends, so I used happy hour on Friday as a way to spread the word.  Myself, along with my friends, handed out my blog “business cards” telling everyone about the lifestyle blog and encouraging them to visit the site.

Some may ask, “why should I read the blog?” My answer: because it’s not your typical celebrity and fashion blog.  While I talk about fashion and entertainment, the topics come a “let’s keep it real” voice, sharing a different perspective on topics we hear about all the time.  I say what everyone else is thinking.  Also, it’s fabulous and you may find some tips on how to become the fabulous person you are meant to be!

I must say, for it to be a diva themed happy hour, there were a lot of guys in the building; not that I’m complaining! lol It was nice to share the site with more guys considering most people that read the site are women.  While it’s called, A Diva State of Mind, there is something on the blog site for everyone.

Again, I want to say thank you to everyone that came out Friday and a special thanks to DJ Blaze for allowing me to co-host with him.  He host CHEERS Happy Hour at Tabaq every Friday.  This past Friday was a special edition.

What’s really considered flirting? Is it the exchange of phone numbers? Slow dancing at the club? Buying a drink and chatting for awhile? Making eye contact across the room and staring for that extra second??

A group of friends  recently went out to Happy Hour  and had a great time.  One of the guys and girls seemed to hit it off really well, if you can call it that. They chatted, exchanged contact info and even danced a little bit.  But you would’ve thought they knew each other for a long time; she’d walk by, they would grab hands. They’d all be standing around (both guys and girls) and he’d always grab the one girl to dance, none of his other female friends. They’d talk to each other, but close enough to consider evading personal space.

But I wonder, is all of that only considered flirting?!? Can there be any meaning behind all of the attention?
