EVENT RECAP: Brunch For A Cause 2015

A Diva State of Mind presents Brunch For A Cause returned Sunday, June 14th at M Street Bar & Grill and we had a great time!

Cheers!

Like last year, we started with an ice breaker. Each person was given a card with a color and number on it. Everyone was supposed to find the person with the same color and number. Since everyone hadn’t arrived by the time we started, I ended up pairing people together who didn’t know each other. After all, the purpose was to meet someone new. If we’re going to get together for a great cause, it should be a fun and friendly environment where we don’t feel like strangers.

Conversations were flowing.

They had a great time at their table!

Following the ice breaker, everyone enjoyed their three course meal which included unlimited mimosas, a salad, one of four entree options and chocolate mousse. Since it was Sunday, we also enjoyed the sounds of jazz in the restaurant played by Yvonne Johnson.  Talk about ambiance! Erica Drucker, the Safe Shores Development Director and Jacki Coyle, the Executive Director for Shepherd’s Table, spoke to everyone about their organizations. It’s great to give back, but it’s also important to know what our support means to these organizations and how we can continue support them in the future.

Brunch attendees didn’t go home empty handed! I stepped up my game this year and everyone went home with a gift bag featuring a wine glass (it wasn’t engraved. Baby steps!), my new business card, brunch sponsor SavvyFitMoms business card, information about Safes Shores and Shepherds’ Table and a stress ball from brunch sponsor Hands-On, LLC. I also gave away two raffle prizes: 1 $25 gift certificate for Dove Chocolate Discoveries and 1 $105 gift card for Zengo Cycle. Those who were there know how hilarious it was to pick the raffle prize winners (hi mom)!

Sorors!

This year, instead of collecting monetary donations, everyone was asked to bring at least one in-kind donation for Safe Shores - The DC Children’s Advocacy Center and Shepherd’s Table. And they showed out! I dropped off a box of 115 items to Shepherd’s Table and Safe Shores received over 120 items. Those donations don’t include the additional items that still need to be purchased with the online monetary donations received. So in total, over 230 items including toiletries, gift cards and clothes were collected and donated to both organizations. Proof that we all can come together and truly make an impact in our communities! If you missed brunch but would like to support these organizations, please visit www.safeshores.org and/or www.shepherdstable.org to make an online donation.

Gift bags and a glimpse of all of the donations!

Between my mom and Gee James of Capitol Media USA, I have a pictures for days. Check them all out in the Brunch For A Cause 2015 photo gallery HERE. After coming up with an overly ambitious idea to host this brunch quarterly, I’ve decided A Diva State of Mind Presents Brunch For A Cause is going to be a yearly event. Hope to see you next June!
