Styled by Keri: The BET Honors 2015

If you know me, you know I’m a planner. I like to know about things ahead of time so I can plan accordingly. But as a stylist, I must be prepared for the unexpected!

On Saturday, photographer Maya called to see if I could help her come up with a look for The BET Honors 2015 which were that night. We had about 7 hours to put a look together! I immediately thought of Rent the Runway. For those who are unfamiliar with the service, Rent the Runway allows you to rent designer dresses and accessories at a discount. They allow 4 day and 8 day rental. When you’re done with your items, you just drop them in the mail in a prepaid envelope.  Luckily there was a Rent the Runway store in Georgetown!

After trying on gowns, cocktail dresses and jumpsuits, we decided on a Tracy Reese Rouge Trumpet Dress paired with a Kenneth Jay Lane statement necklace.  The dress is bold and the necklace is a little edgy, creating a classic but fun look for Maya which speaks to her personality. I loved the silhouette of the dress for Maya; the high low hem creates the illusion of longer legs since she is petite.

We headed to Aldo for the shoes and clutch. Maya had grey shoes that would’ve matched the necklace perfectly, but when I saw these Aldo shoes, I just knew she had to have them. They are a great contrast to the dress.
