EVENT RECAP: Pink Rocks The Runway Fashion Show

Last Friday, the International Trade Center Atrium served as the perfect venue for the Pink Jams! Pink Rocks The Runway fashion show.   The purpose of the event was to highlight the importance of early detection and promote breast cancer awareness.  The show was headlined by designer Christian Siriano.

Following the VIP reception, the show started with the DC designer couture fashion show followed by the Spring 2012 presentation by Christian Siriano.  Siriano’s collection was AMAZING, but the true stars of the show were the 14 breast cancer survivors who rocked the runway in the gorgeous couture gowns. The ladies looked fabulous. I was so glad to be in the presence of these survivors and celebrate their strength.

Diva Spotlight: Stef Woods aka City Girl

Stef Woods Diva Spotlight: Stef Woods aka City GirlStef Woods aka City Girl is a very popular blogger in DC. Her blog, City Girl Blogs, was created three years ago and follows Stef on her various dating adventures. Let me just say, she has some interesting stories to tell!!  Honestly when I first started reading, it reminded me of Sex and the City.

Last year in the midst of blogging about her relationships, things changed and so did some of her blog posts.  In June 2010, Stef was diagnosed with breast cancer.  She was sometimes sad, tired and sick while going though chemo, but she didn’t let that keep her down. Instead, she used her blog to raise awareness and share her experience with her readers.  As a reader I can attest to how enlightening it was to follow her on the journey to living cancer free.   I applaud any woman who has to go through that experience because it is extremely challenging and it isn’t easy sharing how you are feeling during that time with others.

Breast cancer is a life changing experience and it has brought Stef to where she is in her life today.  Since her diagnosis, a lot of positive things have happened.  Ms. Woods is not only a blogger, but she is now teaching courses at American University and continues to write sexual health and wellness articles for Fascinations, the premier educational romance retailer.  As you would expect, she is a strong breast cancer advocate. She speaks and writes about prevention, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hair loss, etc and has donated time to and raised money for a number of breast cancer organizations in the DC area.

I am happy to announce that on September 14, 2011, Stef Woods will be receiving her last cancer IV.  After that, she will be done with treatment!!! And that can mean only one thing, it’ll be time to celebrate!

Please check out Stef’s blog to learn more about her end of treatment celebration and fundraiser for Pink Jams! a Washington, DC area non-profit promoting early detection and breast cancer awareness to young men and women.

Congratulations Stef!!

Do Your Part In The Fight Against Breast Cancer

If everyone was passionate about volunteering and raising money for a great cause, the world would be a much better place.  One organization I love raising money for is Susan G. Komen.  I’ve led a few Passionately Pink for the Cure events and I walked in the Susan G. Komen Global Race For The Cure last year on the National Mall in DC.

Breast cancer isn’t a preventable disease; it is a disease that can affect any one of us.  We could be diagnosed with breast cancer or a family member or friend could be diagnosed.  Since this is a disease that can impact any one of us, we should all do our part to save the boobies!!

As mentioned earlier, I love raising money for a great cause! So I’m asking all of you reading this blog to please do your part in the fight against breast cancer.  I formed a team, The Rules of Behavior, that will be racing in this year’s Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure in Washington, DC.  The team is running to raise $500 for the cause.  I know with your help we can surpass our goal!!!

Up to 75 percent of the Komen Global Race’s net income stays in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area to fund local screening, treatment and education programs for the medically underserved. The remaining dollars support the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Global Promise Fund, a program which is dedicated to reaching underserved people in areas where breast cancer mortality rates are the highest®.

Every dollar makes a difference:

$100 could be used to provide one mammogram
$250 could be used to cover five clinical breast exams
$500 could be used to provide five diagnostic ultrasounds
$1000 could be used to provide 10 mammograms

If you would like to make a donation on behalf of the team, please click here

Please visit www.globalraceforthecure.org to learn more.

Let’s all do our part to fight breast cancer!!!
