Basketball Wives: Don’t Blame The Ratchetness On The Producers

I’ll admit, I do watch ‘Basketball Wives,’ although I feel like I’m losing brain cells every time I do. Let’s just say, unfortunately it’s a guilty pleasure like so many other reality shows. *Shrugs*

In response to angry fans, Tami Roman from Basketball Wives spoke to Sister 2 Sister, stating that fans should be upset with the producers of the show for the foolish behavior that is aired on television:

“I think that the opposition to call for the show to be cancelled will end the employment of several African-American women who have no creative control. Why not call out the people who make the decisions about what is aired. Call out Shed Media. Call out VH1 because I will join that battle. Why call for several people to be unemployed that really have nothing to do with the creative process?”

“I would love to see a season 5 where VH1 and Shed Media are called out to show more positive things that we’re doing and show us how we are 90 percent of the time, instead of how we are 10 percent of the time. I would love to see the brand in and of itself go out on a more positive note.”

First of all, Tami states that cancelling the show would cause them to become unemployed. I really hope ‘Basketball Wives’ isn’t the only stream of income for these women on the show; reality TV does not last forever.  ’Basketball Wives’ may be popular now, but it won’t be forever.

Let’s keep it real, while the producers have creative control over the show, they aren’t responsible for the way the women act on the show.  It doesn’t matter if they only act foolish 10 percent of the time.  Everyone is responsible for their behavior and if they were acting like REAL woman, there wouldn’t be “10 percent” of 35+ year old women fighting to air on national television.   Why does Evelyn want to beat someone down because a girl she doesn’t hang out with talked about her? Why does she care??  Why are women running across tables, literally, because someone said something they didn’t like??  GROW UP!  As much as these women hate taking the blame for their behavior, they need to own up to it. As long as they keep acting foolish, the producers will keep rolling and airing it on TV.

Let ‘Basketball Wives’ teach a lesson on how to NOT communicate. If you have a problem with someone, be an adult and TALK to them about it. Don’t get violent or become a bully, because guess what?  In the real world, you may face consequences (i.e. a law suit). These women are too grown to be acting like animals and should be ashamed of themselves.  No one is to blame for the ratchetness that is seen on ‘Basketball Wives’ except for the women who partake in the behavior.

What do you think of ‘Basketball Wives’? Are the producers to blame for the bad behavior we see EACH week? Would you watch Evelyn and Chad’s show?

EVENT RECAP: #SpinInTheCity Spring Into Sneakers

Tuesday night, I attended the April edition of #SpinInTheCity hosted by Roc Nation artist Bridget Kelly. I was so excited to attend because I’ve always wanted to attend these events in the past but usually had a scheduling conflict.

#SpinInTheCity is a night that celebrates females deejays and female oriented non-profits. The non-profit beneficiary of Tuesday’s event was D.R.EA.M. Life, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which provides mentorship and resources to young, single mothers in the DC metro area.

Complimentary Drink Menu

Vegan red lip color by Plush Beatiq

Guest enjoyed music by DJ Bryte, complimentary cocktails by Ciroc and Qream and delicious cupcakes by KedaKakes. Guest also had the option to enjoy free manicures, lip color from Polish Beatiq and shop a fabulous jewelry collection by District Charm.

I purchased the $10 raffle ticket to benefit D.R.E.A.M. Right before the raffle was announced, I stated to Naseya “I never win anything.” Lo and behold, my raffle ticket was called and I won a fabulous pair of pink Reebok sneakers!

Ask Keri: Where Can I Find Pointy Toe Flats?

Jennifer of Comme Coco asked yesterday on twitter:

Where oh where can I find reasonably priced pointy toed flats?

Her question was right on time because I saw a pair from Nordstrom over the weekend while working at the Westfield Style Tour. I even purchased a pair to try since they were 25% off (I normally don’t where pointy toe flats.  I always feel like they make my feet look extra long but I decided to give them a try anyway).

I recommended Jennifer try Nine West, Steve Madden and DSW. But of course I didn’t stop there. I checked online and found a few other retailers that sell reasonably price cute flats in a variety of colors and prints.

Also visit Ann Taylor. I’ve been told they have neon flats on sale.

Which color or print do you like in pointy toe flats for spring?

John Legend “Tonight (Best You Ever Had)” ft. Ludacris Video

I saw a link for John Legend’s new video “Tonight (Best You Ever Had)” earlier last week and thought to myself, “when did he come out with new music?”  So while I was home Thursday evening, I searched for the video on Youtube to check it since it’s been awhile since we’ve heard from the R&B singer.

“Tonight (Best You Ever Had)” is a song featured on the Think Like A Man soundtrack. Sidebar: the movie is one you want to see. The cast is great and Kevin Hart is hilarious! The song played during scenes of Taraji P. Henson and Michael Ealy, who had a great on screen chemistry (I think these two need to date in real life after watching the movie)!  The video displays a sexier side of John Legend, one we haven’t really seen and movie scenes of Henson and Ealy.

Styled By Keri: Birthday Girl in Gold Sequin

Paula reached out to me to style her for her birthday last week.   We decided that her look would be one that definitely stood out so it was determined during the initial consultation that the dress was going to be a bright color or feature embellishment.

To find something truly unique I searched online first and of course checked out one of my favorite online retailers, ASOS.  I had planned to search in-store as well, but once I shared with Paula some of the ASOS options, we decided to stick with that one retailer as the source of her birthday dress.

After trying on a few dresses, we selected this gold scalloped ¾ length sequin dress. The dress fit Paula like a glove!! It was its own statement piece, so jewelry was kept to a minimum.  The blue, black, red, chain patterned shoes are by ALDO and the ring is from Target.  The gold dress picks of the gold detail in the shoe, which makes them the perfect match.  For hair and makeup we went with a chic Mohawk (one of my favorite hair styles for curly hair or short hair) and dramatic eye makeup which serves as a nice contrast to the gold sequin dress.

Paula looked amazing last weekend at her birthday party and I can’t wait to work with her again for another event!

If you are seeking the services of a stylist, please view the Personal Styling page and do not hesitate to contact me.

Get Yours Today: #ImREDy Tees Now Available!

Last December, I encouraged you to take part in the #ImREDy Campaign started by Carmen Williams, Naseya Minor and Nikki Foster.  The purpose of the campaign was to challenge us to step outside of our comfort zone, embrace our beauty and rock the bold red lipstick that makes of feel the most feminine!

The campaign was supposed to last for a month, but since it’s launch, it has gained the support of many!  In response to the overwhelming positive feedback, the ladies of the campaign have launched #ImREDy tees which are available for pre-order HERE.

I love this campaign!  It forced me to step outside my comfort zone and I now love wearing my red lipstick. It makes me feel bold and sexy. Remember ladies, when wearing your red lipstick, keep the rest of your makeup to a minimum; the red lip should be the focus.

If you’re one who is uncomfortable with the idea of wearing red lipstick, I encourage you to find a shade you like and wear it for a month. You may be a little self conscious at first, but after wearing for a few times, you’ll feel bold, sexy and feminine; eventually you will want to wear red lipstick for more than a month.

For updates on the #ImRedy campaign, follow on twitter at @imREDyNow and use the hashtag #imREDy.

Now, off to place an order for my #ImRedy tee…
